Radisson Road (CSAH 52) and Bunker Lake Boulevard (CSAH 116) Reconstruction in Blaine and Ham Lake

Project Partners: Anoka County, City of Blaine, and City of Ham Lake

Start Date: April 2010

End Date: Completed

What we are doing: Key components of the project include:

Roadways
This project will reconstruct Radisson Road/County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 52 from 125th Avenue NE to Bunker Lake Boulevard (CSAH 116) and Bunker Lake Boulevard from Highway 65 to Radisson Road. The two roadways will be widened to four lanes (two through lanes in each direction) with a raised median, shoulders, and turn lanes. The roadways will have curb and gutter and storm sewer.

Traffic Signals
The widening of Radisson Road will require reconstruction of the traffic signal at 125th Avenue NE. New traffic signals will be installed at the Radisson Road/Bunker Lake Boulevard intersection and at the Radisson Road/Quail Creek Parkway NE/129th Avenue NE intersection..

Ponds
Since the roadways will be constructed with curb and gutter and storm sewer, water quality ponds will be needed.

Pedestrian/Bicycle Trail
A trail will be constructed along the west side of Radisson Road and the south side of Bunker Lake Boulevard in the project area.

How traffic is affected:

7/8/2011 This project is now complete and open to traffic. Remaining clean up and maintenance work will finish when the state government shutdown ends.

Project Benefits: Both Radisson Road and Bunker Lake Boulevard are classified as minor arterial roadways, so their primary function is to provide mobility. The project will improve traffic operations by adding through lanes. Safety will be improved by adding turn lanes, which will move turning traffic out of the through lanes. Safety will also be improved by the construction of the raised median, which will reduce the number of full access intersections, thereby reducing the number of vehicle conflicts. The trail along both roadways will improve mobility and increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
