Lexington Avenue (CSAH 17) Safety Improvements between Broadway Avenue and Viking Boulevard in northern Anoka County

Cities impacted : Columbus, East Bethel, Ham Lake, Linwood Township

Start Date: June 2010

End Date: July 2010

What we are doing: The project provides safety improvements along Lexington Avenue (CSAH 17) between Broadway Avenue (CSAH 18) and Viking Boulevard (CSAH 22) in northern Anoka County. Wider shoulders will be constructed along three curves with new striping and sign replacement.

How traffic is affected: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in both directions which will be controlled by flagging operations. This will cause delays on Lexington Avenue between185th and 197th Avenues.

Project Benefits: The wider shoulders are intended to reduce run off crashes in the curves by providing drivers with additional area to maneuver through the tight sections of roadway. The project will also flatten the slope of the ditch which is intended to reduce the severity of run off crashes in the area. The project will also include repaving of the improved reconstructed curve areas. Additional improvements include restriping and improved visibility signs.
